Heirlooms: A Tradition Worth Starting

My mom started something when I was born. My dad bought her a beautiful pearl necklace, and she wore that necklace to every one of my major life events (kindergarten graduation, college graduation, and everything in between). And then, on my wedding day, she gave it to me to wear.

I now have that necklace and I now have a daughter. My plan is to follow in my mother’s footsteps and wear it to all of Norah’s big events and one day pass it on to her.

In addition to the necklace, my dad gave me a ring with Norah’s birthstone in it. That ring will join the necklace as one of the pieces of jewelry that I will be wearing, loving, and passing down to my daughter.

I just love heirlooms. The necklace and ring aren’t the only ones I have. My engagement ring was my mom’s; the rocking chair in Norah’s nursery was the one my mom used with both me and my brother.

These things are so important to me, and I’m so excited to share them and this tradition with my little girl one day!

Do you have any traditions or heirlooms you hope to pass down to your kids?
